LingMo Updates the Lorelei Line with AL Edition

LingMo, a Chinese fountain pen manufacture, has updated its Lorelei line with  black and white brushed aluminum models in the end of this past October.

According to some early adopters, these pens remain in the same dimension as a standard Lorelei pen, and feature an EF nib selection as default offering. The AL Lorelei weighs around 27g each, thanks largely to the CNC processing used. The manager of the company confirmed yesterday that aviation class aluminum alloy plate was used in these two models.

The retailing price is currently under $10 for domestic market in China, the oversea price from 3-rd party resellers is still unclear.

NOTES: Though LingMo Lorelei looks similar with Jinhao 992/Monteverde Monza or Wing Sung 9133/659, they are all different from each other in some ways. The Lorelei is The first to face the market in the summer of 2016. The official distributor of Lorelei line has been the taboo seller Shanghai Jingdian since then.

  1. Well that’s one way to solve a plastic cracking problem! 😉

I’m so confused by the Lorelei/Jinhao 922. Are they the same pen being sold by different companies? Different pens that are copies of each other?

    1. Yes, using metal is a great way to deal with cracking issue.
Meanwhile, they are all different pens made by different factories. The Sailor pro color 500 along with Pilot 78G inspired the Lorelei, at the same time (Green) Wing Sung was learning to copy the Pilot 78G. Then the success of these two pens set the trend for pen makers in China to copy them instead. So later we have Jinhao and other Wing Sung’s iteration of the same idea. However, quality side, I still think the Lorelei is still the best, they will never crack in the end of the barrel.

  2. Thanks for the article! These pens have now started to show up on Ebay, seller art-pen-book-dy (and possibly others).

By the way, is there a Chinese equivalent of Bock/Jowo that sells these increasingly common “Pilot style” nibs and feeds to Lingmo, Green and everyone else? Or are the nibs in e.g. Lingmo Lorelei and WS 698 actually made by different companies?

    1. Thank you for your attention! Good to know art-pen-book-dy is stocking them. As for the existence of Chinese counterparts of nib BOCK/JOWO, I really don’t know, but it highly possible. Will exploit that topic later this year.

  3. Is the section metal or plastic? Does it have nib unit or is the nib and feed just friction fit?

    1. The section is metal with a frosted but smooth surface. As for its nib and feed, they are friction fit.

      1. Nora! You nailed it in replying this question…I didn’t get the chance to test the pen, so I will stick to your answer to this question.

      2. Thanks, Nora. Is the section slippery? I have had issues with certain pens with metal section where it is very difficult to get a good grip and the pen slides too much to my comfort.

      3. Well, the Lorelei won’t bring you that trouble. I mean, with its frosted and delicate surface, I can grip it extremely comfortably, just like holding a piece of soft silk, but more stable!! I think you will like it. 🙂

  4. Are the threads inside the cap that attach it to the barrel also made of aluminum or are they a separate plastic collar?

    1. It’s separate plastic collar! But it provides a better confined space to prevent the ink from being dry. Also you will not wear threads intensely, because the plastic makes screwing much softly.
